Adult Care Worker Level 2

What will I do in this job role? 

There are various roles within Cumbria Care in a variety of settings, including residential homes, day centres and domiciliary care services. As an apprentice you will learn about the many roles within Cumbria Care which sits within the Council's Adult and Local Services Directorate and your tasks will be similar to those listed below: 

  • Supporting service users with their nutritional needs and diet. 
  • Assisting service users with personal hygiene. 
  • Assist with personal care - dressing, listen to others. 
  • Give emotional and psychological support where required. 
  • The application of prescribed treatments and/or medications. 
  • Support the Supervisor in the administration of medication.
  • Work with small informal teams. 
  • Contribute towards decision making and practice. 
  • Follow instructions and procedures. 
  • Provide opportunities that will enrich the life of each individual by identifying and creating experiences and activities that are both stimulating and fulfilling

What will I achieve? 

  • Level 2 Standard in Adult Care Worker. 
  • The Care Certificate must also be achieved as part of this qualification.


Lead Adult Care Worker Level 3

As a Lead Adult Care Worker you will make a positive difference to someone's life when they are faced with physical, practical, social, emotional or intellectual challenges. You will be expected to exercise judgement and take appropriate action to support individuals to maintain their independence, dignity and control. 

Lead Adult Care Workers may work in residential or nursing homes, domiciliary care, day centres or some clinical healthcare settings. As well as covering Lead Adult Care Workers this standard also covers Lead Personal Assistants who can work at this senior level but they may only work directly for one individual who needs support and/or care services, usually within their own home.

These are the personal attributes and behaviours expected of all Lead Adult Care Workers carrying out their roles:

  • Care - is caring consistently and enough about individuals to make a positive difference to their lives
  • Compassion - is delivering care and support with kindness, consideration, dignity, empathy and respect
  • Courage - is doing the right thing for people and speaking up if the individual they support is at risk

Qualifications

Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care.

Individuals without level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking the end-point assessment.

For those with an education, health and care plan or a legacy statement the apprenticeships English and maths minimum requirement is Entry Level 3 and British Sign Language qualification are an alternative to English qualifications for whom this is their primary language.

Duration:

Typically 18 months


Leader in Adult Care Level 5

The Leader in Adult Care will guide and inspire teams to make positive differences to someone's life when they are faced with physical, practical, social, emotional, psychological or intellectual challenges. They will be a leader of the care team and will develop and implement a values-based culture at a service or unit level. They may be responsible for business development, financial control, organisational resilience and continuity as well as for managing risk and leading on organisational change. 

These are the personal attributes and behaviours expected of all Leaders in Adult Care carrying out their roles:

Children and Young People's Workforce Apprenticeship (Level 2)

What will I do in this job role? This is a vital role in enabling contact between children and their families to be successful. You will work alongside Child and Family Workers and will develop a knowledge of child development and also an understanding of child/parent relationships. Whilst your day to day tasks will be determined by the specific team that you are assigned to, examples of the type of duties you may be required to perform include:

  • To shadow Child and Family Workers and support sessions and develop note taking skills. 
  • To replenish and add additional display boards around the Family Centre to keep them up to date and with relevant themes. 
  • To develop skills in Life Story Work and in completing Life Story Books for children and young people in care. 
  • To keep rooms used for contact and toys in the centre clean and tidy (other staff will also support with this). 
  • To be part of the team supporting parents and carers in contact with their children so that contact with them is a positive experience. 
  • To liaise professionally and positively with others both professionals and service users.
  • To learn skills in dealing with vulnerable adults and children who can sometimes be challenging. 

You will need to be highly motivated, be willing to work within a team and independently, meet deadlines, respect and value other people including older people, race, gender and other diversity issues. Be committed to equality and diversity and health and safety.

What will I achieve? 

  • Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young People's Workforce. 
  • Functional Skills in Maths and ICT (Level 2)


Teaching Assistant Level 3

Role profile:

Teaching Assistants work in Primary, Special and Secondary education across all age ranges encompassing special educational needs and emotional vulnerabilities. The primary role of the Teaching Assistant is to support the class teacher to enhance pupils' learning either in groups or individually, ensuring pupils understand the work set, know their learning objectives and stay on task in order to make progress. Promoting self-belief, social inclusion and a high self-esteem play an integral part to pupils' well-being; ensuring pupils thrive in a positive, nurturing, safe environment. It is an active role supporting the learner to access the curriculum. They are good role models, act with honesty and integrity, take part in team meetings; contribute to planning and class activities. Promoting Fundamental British Values through spiritual, moral, social and cultural development and positive behaviours are crucial in contributing to improved pupil progress and development.

Qualifications:

Apprentices without English and Maths at Level 2 must achieve these prior to taking the End Point Assessment.


Children, young people and families practitioner Level 4

As a practitioner you will be working with children, young people and families, including carers, to achieve positive and sustainable change in their lives. You will demonstrate a passion to care for and about children, young people and families. You will be skilled in recognising and assessing the complex needs that children, young people and families often present. 

OPTION 1: Practitioner in Children's Residential Care

You could be working in a number of settings e.g. a children's home, a residential special school or a secure children's home. The children might be living on their own or in a larger group. You will take the lead in developing and delivering the child's placement plan and will work with the child to support their health, education, social and day to day needs, playing a significant role in helping them to thrive and fulfil their potential .

OPTION 2: Children, Young People and Families Practitioner within the Community

You will understand the importance of and be skilled in, early intervention and safeguarding work. You will manage risk across the spectrum needs for children, young people and families'. You may work in settings as diverse as family homes, youth centres, early years, youth justice, children's centres, educational settings and the community. You will play a significant role in working across agencies to improve outcomes. You may work with particular age groups, across the full age range or specifically with families. By supporting the confidence and skills of children, young people and families you will help them to overcome barriers and maximise their independence.

Duration: Typically 24 months for new entrants. For those with relevant qualifications and experience in the health and social care field, 12 to 18 months

Qualifications: Apprentices without level 2 English and Maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking their end- point assessment.

Children, young people and families manager Level 5

As a Children, Young People and Family Manager you will ensure direction, alignment and commitment within your own practice, your team(s), your organisation and across partnerships to help children, young people and families aspire to do their best and achieve sustainable change. You will build teams, manage resources and lead new approaches to working practices that deliver improved outcomes and put the child, young person or family at the centre of practice. 

You may work either as a Manager in Children's Residential Care or as a Children, Young People and Families Manager in the Community in a range of settings in local authorities, within health organisations, educational and early years settings or children's centres, as well as a wide range of private voluntary and community organisations. You could be solely responsible for the management of a team or service, or be part of a management team. To deliver effectively on a wide range of outcomes you will work on a multi agency basis with professionals from a wide range of backgrounds, as well as team leaders and managers from your own organisation.

Duration: Typically 24- 30 months if you do not possess one of the mandatory qualifications listed below, otherwise 12 to 18 months

Level: 5

Social Worker (integrated degree) Level 6

Social Work is an exciting and fulfilling international profession. As a Social Worker you will work in partnership with adults, children, carers and families in a range of different settings to support and promote positive change in people's lives in order to improve their wellbeing and independence. 

Within the context of relevant Social Work legislation, you will use your professional judgement and build relationships with a variety of individuals and communities, as well as with a wide range of other professionals and agencies. In your role you will assess, plan, implement and evaluate complex situations. This requires an ability to critically reflect and make decisions within a clear professional code of ethics.

As a registered Social Worker, you will engage in protecting individuals from harm, abuse, neglect and exploitation. You will work in a way which is compassionate and which takes account of all aspects of the individual's life - ensuring their voice is central to decision making. You will use your professional expertise to work, assess, plan, implement, evaluate and intervene putting the needs of people first.

Throughout your career, you will be responsible for ensuring your continuing professional development and will be expected to demonstrate leadership whatever your role. All Social Workers must register with the professional regulator and adhere to their professional standards.

Qualifications

Honours Degree in Social Work.

Apprentices without Level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking their end point assessment. For those with an education, health and care plan or a legacy statement, the apprenticeships English and maths minimum requirements are Entry Level 3, and the British Sign Language qualification is an alternative to English qualifications for apprentices for whom this is their primary language.
